Is The GOP Afraid Of Tom White?

by Kyle Michaelis

Ryan wrote last month about the increasingly desperate tactics being employed by the GOP in response to Tom White and his Nebraska Leadership Project. In the last week, it seems, the Nebraska Republican Party has become even more desperate, launching blatantly false attacks against Senator White.

The long and short of it? White's Nebraska Leadership Project lists his home address as the contact address. This is the same address that he uses for his campaign - a common practice among state legislators. The website was mentioned in White's newsletter to his constituents.

Republicans are raising a fuss, claiming that the NLP is a campaign website and that White violated state law. These are demonstrably false claims that show just how desperate the state Republican Party has become. White isn't a declared candidate for any political office, and isn't up for reelection until 2010, but the state Republican Party seems bent on demonizing White as early as possible. It's bordering on obsession and it's a little unhealthy. I think someone needs to sit Tiffiny Carlton and Mark Quandahl down for a chat and tell them that Nebraska voters are sick of this kind of crap - then again, if the results of the 2006 U.S. Senate race are any indication, maybe the voters will send the message for themselves.
